Exhibition Review

We all had a chance to put a pice of our work into the peacock gallery this year. There were some amazing pieces from cardboard pictures to toy dresses. My favourite thing in the exhibition was the sculpture of a dog made entirely from tea bags. I liked it because it was so original, and a great way to recycle old tea bags! Also the shape of the dog was perfect, they really captured the animal. I really liked the exhibition because it was really colourful and there was so much to look at.  One thing that wasn't so good was there was so much work that there was hardly any room to move around and it felt like you could easily knock something over or break something, but overall the exhibition was a great success! :)

Final Piece Evaluation

Final Piece

My final piece was a portrait of tine tempah made out of an old tape and cardboard.

I was inspired by the music video to bruno Mars's song 'Just The Way You Are'. I then researched other artists that used old tape to make pictures out of, there were loads one i came across was Jim Morrison.

I made my final outcome by firstly finding a picture of tinie tempah, then drawing it onto a piece of card, by a much bigger scale. I then experimented what type of glue was most suitable for sticking the tape. I chose pritt stick because the glue gun was too hot and melted the tape, pva was okay but pritt stick is easier to use. I then just taped over my drawing.

Instead of using A3 paper, which i asked for originally, i used recycled cardboard to keep in with the recycled theme. I am pleased that i used cardboard in the end because it looks more recycled and it is also a stronger material to work with.

I am most pleased with the hands as they really stand out and have all the detail from the picture. I am not that pleased with the overall out come because i don't think you can recognise who it is, even if you know what he looks like. I could improve all of it, as i think it all looks quite messy and i could have spent more time on it.

This is an example of work that I found. It is a tape portrait of Bob Dylan. This picture uses the tape in the picture. I had to consider whether to incorporate the tape into the piece or not and if so where should I put it? I decided  to put it in the bottom left corner because most artists have it in the centre at the bottom, so i wanted to be a bit different.

This is my work from the exhibition.

Relief Form :)

Our Relief Form work was inspired by the work of Cara Barer .
Our task was to create an imaginative piece with inspiration from Cara Barer's work. She first got the idea after seeing a yellow pages book in the rain and seeing the waves and shapes that formed when it was out in the rain. She then tried it out herself, dampening the pages and then curling them into all sorts of circles, swirls, and twists.

We tried to create something similar ourselves in class. We were given a slab of a magazine, and a hand full of paper clips, and started to shape the pages. It was quite fun but it took quite a long time (: After we had paper clipped all of our work, we had to glue where the paperclips had been to give it a better finish. I think our work looks quite similar to Cara Barer's work and am pleased with it (:

3D projecting form

We were given the task to make a 3D sculpture coming out of a book. We were shown some examples by other artists, then we had to make one of our own. I got given a story book and decided to look for a line or phrase within the book to create a response to. After looking, i found the line '..and drink tea with us this afternoon' which i think is a great line you have a lot of freedom to make a response to. I chose to do a tea pot, but  If i had more time i might have done 2 teacups and some cakes and it would all be much neater. :)

I found this church/house whilst researching. It even has windows and birds flying in the sky. I think it is amazing, its so intricate,  and delicate and must have taken a long time!

This alice in wonderland themed 3D form we saw in class gave me inspiration for my art, the detail is so intricate and precise. Even the table cloth has fine dots for extra detail. I would love to be able to make a piece like this. The mugs of tea and cake etc inspired me to make a tea pot.

'The Cassell Book of the Morris & M.G.1100' book title/cover

In this project we made a response to a  book we were given at random. My book was about cars, 'The Cassell Book of the Morris & M.G.1100'. I decided to make a flip up scene of a road (: i included trees and cars. We were given small knives to cut out a silouette of the image we chose. It took quite a long time, even though the cars were not a very intrecate silouette to cut out. I enjoyed the project but i would have liked to have a book you have more flexibitility on the book/book title and more time to create a more detailed, intericate and delicate flip up. :)
